The Heartless Food and Drink Industry

Today we live in a world of lies, half-truths, misinformation and marketing hype – and when it comes to obesity in general, the society tells us that it is because of lack of exercise and not balancing your calories.

They also make you feel that it is entirely your fault,  because you are what you eat – when actually, it’s the heartless food and drink industry which is at the heart of the problem – especially in the case of child obesity.

Little failings

Today we see more cases of heart failures, kidney damage and type 2 diabetes in children. They have increased in the last 30 to 40 years. Today’s children have grown up eating junk food. They are doing it because the food and drink industry is feeding them.

Sweet Nothings

Sugar can hide behind many names on nutritional labels like: caramel, corn syrup, date sugar, sucrose, fructose, glucose, dextrose, lactose, maltose, honey, etc.

Sugar in tomato ketchup, white bread, white rice, potatoes, breakfast cereals – they are all metabolically the same.

No-brainer

The food industry knows that the earlier you introduce these products to children they have already branded them for the future – and that’s why we see a lot of health insurance companies buying stocks in food companies.

The fabled fountain of youth has become a reality. Centuries ago, Ponce de Leon went chasing after it & started a trend that exists to this day. The waters of the Bahamas & Florida that de Leon believed could restore health & youth – although nice to swim in – didn’t quite cut it. You can also forget about finding the answer on some mountaintop.
